Firecruiser Racing Team History

The "plain text" Logo

Firecruiser Racing Team (sometimes abbreviated to FRT) was formed from the ashes of Covamalia Racing, when Covamalia decided that he wanted to be just a Really (really) Rubbish driver rather than mixing that with being a Really Rubbish Team Principal. Covamalia Racing was formed after Covamalia won the team in a poker game in 1996, back when the team was known as Fish Soup Racing. Funnily enough, the shares were previously acquired for this team by Andy Awesomesauce printed on some toilet roll he found in 1995 in a public toilet in Antony, Paris when the team was previously known as La Mousse.

Although no longer Team Principal, Covamalia is still heavily involved in paying for the team, which is how he still has a drive with them! General day to day running is done by the Team Principal, Andy Awesomesauce, brought back in because he is really not as awesome at poker as his name suggests, making Covamalia feel sorry for him. He was offered the job in return for never playing poker again.

The team itself is registered to race under a Sealand licence. This was done for tax purposes as Andy Awesomesauce really isn't very good with money in general (not just in poker games). However, the logistical nightmare of running a team from there was not an option, unless we wanted to go powerboat racing (coming soon!), so it was decided to base close to Covamalia in Yorkshire. In fact we are based right next door to his house, meaning he can just roll out of bed at whatever time he wants. One thing is for sure though, despite being Really (really) Rubbish, we will most likely always be the best team in Sealand!

Team Racing History

HGTM

The team made an understated debut at the Mugello round of the HGTM season. They had only run the car in a brief photoshoot for the purpouses of creating a signature image for the season and so were not up to speed, in what proved for many to be beasts of cars to drive. A couple of races in, Firecruiser Racing Team announced a new sponsorship with a well known magazine who were trying to increase their client base hugely by entering the beard-centric universe of RRR.

The new sponsorship on the car

We jumped at the chance to be able to get some extra money as we eventually want to be able to dive in a pool of money like Scrooge McDuck. As a result of this, we welcomed a new sponsor to the team until the end of the season, Beard Aficionado Weekly.

Beard Aficionado Weekly editor:
We are pleased to be able to sponsor Firecruiser Racing Team. This opportunity is a fantastic one for us, as many of the competitors in the sport are beard aficionados, however not many will know about our magazine. We aim to change this and bring our influence (and beards) to the world of HGTM.

Unfortunately, we could only afford space on the back of the car which not many people will get to see due to the team mainly being at the back of the field, but we hope that lapping cars will take note of the new sponsor at least!

RRRRRC

The Really Rubbish Racing Radically Rubbish Cup marked a late entry to the event for the Firecruiser Racing Team. They had not long acquired a Radical chassis, but after a few attempts to steer it round corners (badly) without traction control on, they decided since TC would be allowed in this event, that they could throw something together, and give them a chance to put together another truly awesome livery.

MEMEs

The MEMEs season would mark the teams first full season with RRR and the team took this opportunity to jump into the season with both feet. As this was the first season with 2 Lobbies and merged results, many were expecting the FRT entry to be placed into Lobby 2. This proved to be the case and so began the start of Season 5. Before the daunting task of choosing cars for the season, many hours were spent testing cars and choosing the ones that suited each persons driving style the most. Covamalia on the other hand, chose his car as it had the word TURBO splatted on the side and the back of the car. This also bred a truly inspired "testing livery" for the car, which was used in all sessions with other RRR drivers, until the reveal of the season liveries. Once it had been confirmed that the team would use the Renault 5 Turbo car each week for Race 3, testing started with immediate effect. This took place around the Laguna Seca test track, as the team wanted to go visit California for a holiday. The team spent a lot of time lapping the track in the hopes of finding a way to cure the cars tendency to understeer. Other than going at 2mph, no solution was found. When the regular season liveries were officially launched, many thought of the cars as brilliantly blinding. Others, just blinding. Some say that 8th MEME car has warp capability. Others just say it handles like a great big whopping galactic class spaceship. All we know is, it looks as cool as Picard drinking Earl Grey. Hot. The season itself went farily well for the team, with a Lobby 2 win and often raced at the sharp end of the lobby. It was only due to minor errors and misfortune of having other people put him off the road that he did not manage more points in the season. It does bode well for season 6 however, when Firecruiser Racing Team aims to move up a step and closer to the midfield.

Cruddy 125

Firecruiser Racing Team narrowly missed pre-qualifying for The Inaugural Cruddy 125 race. This was despite the fact that a time had been set that was easily good enough to qualify, but Covamalia had lost the picture in the wilderness of his hard drive. When trying to replicate the time, he just couldnt manage it so hurried it up and set a time quickly with deadline fast approaching. This result left him in the Lights class, which turned out to be an entertaining race for the first few laps at least after qualifying the car on pole. Unfortunately after a coming together with I am Jamm, Covamalia slipped well down the field and pretty much stayed there, not able to trouble the leaders afterwards.

Firecruiser Racing Team and Goteki are pleased to announce a joint venture into the upcoming F1 Summer Series. Thanks to the bankroll provided by both teams, the collaboration will enable them to jointly undertake research into time travel, in order to try and help return the Goteki crew to the future. The team aim to do this using ideas coined by Asimov such as Endochronic principles in relation to Kinetics. They will also be the first team in the pitlane to employ a robotic pitcrew, which are programmed not to go on a bloody rampage, thanks to Asimov's laws. In order to help the venture, Asimov himself has been cloned and made into the Team Principal for the Summer Series entry, while still answering to the existing Goteki 45 and Firecruiser structure. The deal sees the Goteki racer, PJ racing under the Firecruiser Racing Team banner this season. The team will uofficially be known as the Firecruiser "Fag Packet" Racing Team this season.

When asked by journalists how the venture was achieved, Sergeant Cactus replied saying that "the pursuit of time travel is a complex one. Working with Asimov means that he can show us his work on Thiotimoline which I believe is the greatest scientific discovery ever made. Don't listen to him singing in the shower though!" Goteki Founder, Keao Manumaleuna had this to say about the venture: "the aim of returning home is now a very real one thanks to this joint venture. We hope that lag attacks occur frequently enough for us to be able to take some decent measurements. However we do not like these to affect the racing, so the partnership with a driver who spends his time at the back anyway allows us to do this without interfering with anyone elses race and risk getting on the wrong side of any organisations, such as the NAT (again)"

Many, however, have speculated that it is in fact a clever ploy (mainly due to the crazy acronym) to get around advertising laws in certain countries that Summer Series races take place in.

The team intend to run the Red Bull RB7 chassis for the season.

Bon Anniversaire

Firecruiser Racing Team teamed up with the ART crew for a one off collaboration in Mercedes SLS cars in the GT category at Bon Anniversaire. The collaboration ran the historic Le Mans track under the guise of FART. The livery unveiling went by uneventfully at the start but soon descended into chaos as the two drivers decided to start driving the wrong way down Mulsanne for shits and gigs. It did not end well and the cars had to be rebuilt. Their race performance, although spirited, left them second last and last across the line. They had a great scrap between themselves however, mainly due to differing strategies, Mr E 004 going for 4 lap stints with Covamalia going for 5 lap stints plus an extra long stop half way round the lap to sort out his race engineer.

Carroll Shelby Tribute Trophy

Firecruiser Racing Team will be entering a single car into the Carroll Shelby Tribute Trophy. The race should be a great mark of respect for a great man and a great racer who was a true pioneer of motorsport. The team doesnt care how well they do in this race, just being there is enough for them, however testing showed promise as Covamalia led home ajokay and PJ along with others while driving these cars. However testing is one thing, the race is quite another and the team realizes that they probably will not be frontrunners for the title or for a win.

Recruiting drive for Season 7

Season 7 saw a huge campaign launched to find a new driver for the team. The campaign was a huge undertaking with a dedicated thread on the forum and even its own campaign T-shirts, stickers and iPhone cases! In the end, the team selected Kimstermagnum as their new second driver for the season and set about choosing a car to use for the season. Once the car was chosen and ratified by the governing body (aka ajokay's inbox), testing began and the cars were launched.
